US Embassy in Georgia and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) provided protective equipment and laboratory testing supplies to the State Laboratory of Agriculture. The donation is worth over USD 114,000.

“The State Laboratory of Agriculture provides essential services that ensure food safety and help farmers diagnose plant and animal diseases. This work is vital to ensuring Georgian food producers continue contributing to Georgia’s economic recovery. Global cooperation is crucial to save lives, promote economic recovery, and build better resilience against future biological catastrophes. The United States will continue working closely with Georgia and international partners like the COVAX facility to meet these challenges,” the US Embassy said in a statement.

According to the US Embassy, the United States provided more than USD 7 million in assistance to help Georgia fight the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure the government continues delivering essential services to the Georgian people over the past year.

US Deputy Chief of Mission Rian Harris, Deputy Georgian Agriculture Minister Giorgi Khanishvili, DTRA Georgian office Head Margo Shields and Director of State Laboratory of Agriculture Irakli Guledani and his assistant Ana Gulbani attended the gifts handing ceremony.
