Muslim world celebrates Ramazan Bayrami starting today. The holiday was marked in Juma Mosque in Tbilisi where Muslims have gathered since early this morning to read the special prayer. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili arrived at the mosque to congratulate Muslims living in Georgia on the religious holiday. Eastern Georgia Mufti Yasin Aliyev said that it was the day of joy and he was glad that Georgia’s president joined the festivity. Sharing of our holidays has turned into a tradition on part of the Georgian authorities, Mufti said. Georgia’s President Salome Zurabishvili said that Georgia was one of the countries in the world where Sunnites and Shiites celebrated Ramazan Bayrami together. Our joint achievement is that Georgia is a tolerant country, Zurabishvili said. Ramazan Bayrami marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Muslims around the world will be celebrating the holiday during three days. Ramadan is considered the holiest month of the year for Muslims. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from food and drink during the sunlit hours as a means of learning self-control, gratitude, and compassion for those less fortunate. Ramadan is a month of intense spiritual rejuvenation with a heightened focus on devotion, during which Muslims spend extra time reading the Qur’an and performing special prayers. source: 1TV/ 1tv.ge
