Former UNM chair: Unity with people, faith in future, to bring changes

27.02.24 14:00

“Punching with the election threshold and unity prompted by the fear of not overcoming it will not bring changes. Unity with people and faith in the future will lead to changes,” said Nika Melia, former chair of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party.

According to Nika Melia, political analysts have recently voiced their viewpoints about how the opposition should form coalitions for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In his words, meanwhile, the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party tries to divide the political spectre and voters between “Natsebi” and “Kotsebi” (supporters of the UNM and GD). “The attempt is to entangle the population to choose between past and present,” he said.

Nika Melia remarked voters stuck between the UNM and GD represent the vast majority, and “we should find a way that leads to the future and unites our voters.”

“Punching with the election threshold and unity prompted by the fear of not overcoming it will not bring changes. Unity with people and faith in the future will lead to changes. The size of the unity is not determined by the number of subjects included in it. It is determined by the number of people that this unity forms, whose interest it carries and reflects,” said Nika Melia.
