Robin Dunnigan: I think there is a real threat that disinformation from Russia will threaten confidence in the democratic system

I think there is a real threat that disinformation from Russia will threaten confidence in the democratic system here and threaten the electoral system, - US Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan told reporters.

“I want to say that I don't believe that Russia is a force for positive change or positive influence in this country or in other democracies. I think there is a real threat that disinformation from Russia will threaten confidence in the democratic system here and threaten the electoral system. The United States is absolutely committed to working with the Georgian Government, the Central Election Commission, all civil society organizations and opposition parties to help ensure that this election is free and fair, that there is not interference from outside forces, that Georgians know that when they go to the ballot box, their vote is secret, and their vote matters and their vote is counted. We are spending our own resources to help ensure that this is true here and we will continue to do that”, said the Ambassador.

On the second question regarding an internal State Department memo. I have to say I'm surprised at the attention that has received here because that is an internal memo to the State Department, helping people in the State Department who wanted to be more inclusive in the workplace. Find ways to talk about that. I will say that it has nothing to do with Georgia. It's nothing that we published here in Georgia, but what it's really about is helping people in the State Department be more inclusive. I will say regarding language that has gender the Georgia language also doesn't have he and she which I think is interesting. I am a proud mother, a proud wife, a proud sister, my children, my parents, I think that we all should strive to use language that treats others with respect.
