The “fruitful” cooperation between Georgia and Croatia was discussed on Monday in a meeting between Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Croatian counterpart Gordan Grlić-Radman.
The Georgian Ministry said the officials launched the Honorary Consulate of Georgia in Pula, calling the event an “opportunity to strengthen relations” in culture, economy, tourism and people-to-people ties.
They also noted the opening of the Georgian Embassy in Zagreb last year had been an “important step for deepening relations” between the two countries, while also pointing out the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries and “positive dynamics of cooperation in various fields”.
Darchiashvili extended his gratitude to Grlić-Radman for his “firm support” to Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration and noted Croatia was a “reliable partner and friend” for his state.
The Georgian official said he hoped the support would be “strengthened” after the “historic decision” of the European Council to grant Georgia the European Union membership candidate status in December.
On his part, Grlić-Radman confirmed his support for Georgia's European integration, adding the country’s “place” was in Europe and the EU.
He noted the cooperation between the two countries was “based on common European values”, and added his Government “fully supported” Georgia’s efforts to become a member of the EU and NATO.
