Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Guram Guramishvili and Young Tae Kim, the Secretary-General of the International Transport Forum, on Friday discussed challenges in the transport sector and development prospects of the Middle Corridor logistics route connecting Central Asia and China to Europe via the South Caucasus.
The Ministry of Economy said the meeting highlighted the Corridor as a “promising alternative” to existing routes between Europe and Asia, emphasising the need for “coordinated decisions” among the participating countries.
Guramishvili provided an overview of Georgia’s current economic trends and the Government’s decisions in transport and logistics areas to Tae Kim.
He also presented ongoing and planned projects - including for the Anaklia deep sea port - as well as railway modernisation and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars rail connection, emphasising the “significant state investments” to enhance the country's transport and logistics capabilities.
Georgia is strategically located, and our aim is to further integrate the country into regional and global transport routes through infrastructure development”, Guramishvili said.
Finally, the Deputy Minister extended an invitation to Tae Kim to visit Georgia.
The meeting was held as part of a ministerial meeting of the International Transport Forum, hosted this week in Leipzig, Germany.
