"Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the People's Republic of China on bilateral exemption from visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports" comes into force today. The information is distributed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
According to the agency, as a result of the above, citizens of Georgia are allowed to travel to the People's Republic of China visa-free from May 28 of this year and stay for 30 days once after entering the country.
As noted in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it should be taken into account that the duration of a Georgian citizen's visa-free travel to China and stay in the country should not exceed 90 days in any 180 days.
"The duration of visa-free stay of a citizen of Georgia in the People's Republic of China is not subject to extension, except for humanitarian purposes and cases of force majeure. The agreement does not apply to those citizens of Georgia who plan to stay in the territory of the People's Republic of China for more than 30 days, or live, or start work, study, or work in the media or any other type of activity that requires prior permission from the relevant authorities of the People's Republic of China. In such cases, the citizen of Georgia is obliged to obtain a visa of the appropriate category before departure. Those wishing to travel to China should take into account the following: When crossing the state border of the People's Republic of China, they should bring with them: a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the period of stay in China, a hotel reservation and travel insurance. It should be noted that, as in other countries, the border officer reserves the right to make a sole decision on the entry of a person into the country; The use of various social and mobile platforms is restricted in the territory of the People's Republic of China. Electronic payment systems - Alipay, WeChat Pay - are widespread in the country. However, e-wallet on WeChat Pay can only be topped up with a Chinese bank card. And Alipay can be topped up with any foreign card; In case of violation of law in the People's Republic of China, the citizen of Georgia is subject to the norms of Chinese legislation. The Consular Service of Georgia provides assistance to citizens within the scope of the powers granted by law. In the People's Republic of China, it is forbidden to take photos and videos for military, government and special purpose buildings, unless it is agreed in advance with the relevant authorities. It should be noted that the agreement "between the Governments of Georgia and China on mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports" was signed on April 10, 2024.
