Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Friday highlighted the significance of today's meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday embarked on an official visit to Germany.

In her remarks, Botchorishvili emphasised the importance of Germany's continued support for Georgia's integration into the EU, expecting fruitful discussions on key priorities and challenges facing Georgia.

“Germany is the most important strategic partner for Georgia. Germany's role in the development of the state of Georgia is special among EU member states, and it is very important for us. As for the integration into the EU, Germany's support was important in the process of granting the candidate status, and it is also important in the continuation of this process. I expect that this meeting will be another good opportunity for the Georgian PM to discuss at the highest level all the priorities that our country has on the path of integration into the EU, as well as the challenges facing Georgia”, Botchorishvili noted.

Bocthorishvili emphasised the importance of transparency and democracy in decision-making processes, highlighting that these principles were equally relevant for both Georgia and EU member states.

“This process is as necessary for Georgia as it is for any member state of the European Union. Transparency, both in the EU member states and in Georgia, in the process of making political decisions, is important. Also, it is necessary for our citizens as well as for citizens of EU member states. Therefore, putting the EU member states and Georgia on a different wave is absolutely irrelevant when we are talking about the same challenge, the same issue”, Bocthorishvili said.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze will meet the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, today. Face-to-face and extended format meetings are planned, after which Kobakhidze and Scholz  held a joint press conference.

The visiting Georgian delegation includes the Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani, the Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and the Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani.
