Romania supported granting Georgia candidate status, and we continue to do so, the Romanian Ambassador to Georgia, Răzvan Rotundu, said after the ceremony handing NATO contact embassy status to the British and Romanian embassies.

According to him, the European Commission will publish its opinion on the recommendations by the end of the year.

“Georgia works on the EC’s 12 recommendations. There are a couple of draft bills that are to the Venice Commission. The European Commission will publish its report by the end of the year. There will be some other intermediary reports that will be published. Romania supported granting Georgia the candidate status, and we continue to stand by this position. That is the decision that will be taken by consensus, by 27 countries,” Ambassador declared.

A NATO contact embassy status has been granted to the British and Romanian embassies. A ceremony, attended by diplomats, Georgian authorities and NGOs, was held at the Polish Embassy to Georgia.
