Parliament to send draft law on electoral reform to OSCE / ODIHR

04.03.21 12:45

According to MP Shalva Papuashvili, if the opposition has any specific opinion or proposal, they can discuss it. Regarding the parties involved in the working group, as Papuashvili notes, they no longer have substantive remarks as they mostly discuss technical recommendations.

"The working group will continue to work to improve this project. We have about 2 months ahead before the parliament passes the law in three readings. At the same time, we are waiting for the OSCE / ODIHR report on the October 31 elections and we are going to send this project to the OSCE / ODIHR to receive recommendations on the project.

As for the threshold issue for the 2024 parliamentary elections, we agree to reduce it from 5 to 3 percent, in this regard, our support is guaranteed, if the needed number of MPs will claim their mandates in the parliament. As for reducing the threshold by making it lower that 3 percent - we are ready to discuss it", - Papuashvili said.
